COLUMBO MYSTIFIED

On November 19, 2004 approximately 30 University of Minnesota Alumni Association North Texas Chapter members convened at Smith & Wollensky in Dallas for a preseason party and fellowship. One by one we trickled in, and by 6 P.M. we were rockin’ with festivities. Smith & Wollensky is a very upscale restaurant. Appetizers included prawns, oysters on the half shell, and various hors d’eourves. A dessert bar and

beverages of your choice (including wine) were also provided.

As with our previous event in August, we conducted our 50/50 raffle to benefit our scholarship fund. Raffle tickets sold for $2 a piece, or three for $5. We gathered a total of $162.00 for the raffle. The first ticket drawn was bought by Sandra Burdick. She chose the 50/50 option for a total of $81.00 to take home in her pocket. Remember us in your will Sandra. The other $81.00 went to our scholarship fund (hence the 50/50). The other drawing prize went to Deborah Burdick. Deborah got to walk away with two luxury suite tickets to the Mavericks and Timberwolves game the following Monday November 21, 2004

Some regulars attended the soiree, and quite a few first timers also enjoyed the preseason soiree. An underlying

mystery was who provided the appetizers, hors d’eourves, desserts, and drinks. We got word that an anonymous benefactor was paying for our get together, and for the two luxury suite tickets we raffled off. Despite attempts to get her to tell us who this anonymous benefactor is, Jan was not telling us anything. Jan says it is not her. This is indeed a baffling mystery. And we are indeed thankful that there are some generous people who appreciate the value of an education from the University of Minnesota.
