Achievements

  • Opened the $45 million McNamara Alumni Center; hosted 10,000+ at grand opening in collaboration with our partners at the University of Minnesota Foundation and Minnesota Medical Foundation
  • Achieved a record UMAA membership of 60,000
  • Launched M Alumni Online, an electronic directory of 350,000 that members may access
  • Launched public relations campaign, “Helping Change the World One Graduate at a Time”
  • Grew the Legislative Network to 15,000 members
  • Took public policy stands in support of the University’s strategic positioning recommendations, combining the men’s and women’s athletic departments, and bringing Gopher football back to campus
  • Hosted Annual Celebrations featuring CNN news anchor Aaron Brown, international composer Yanni, and best selling author Harvey Mackay
  • Dedicated the Gateway Plaza at the 2002 Annual Celebration
  • Incorporated the University Sesquicentennial Grand Finale into the 2001 Annual Celebration
  • Piloted a variety of career programs, including establishing a Career/LifeWork Center in collaboration with CCE and sponsoring two career fairs
  • Celebrated our 100th anniversary and published a 32-page narrative history of the association
  • Continued our leadership position on the football stadium issue by pledging $1 million to support the U’s effort to bring Gopher football back to campus
  • Pledged $500,000—to be matched by the University—to kick off a new scholarship program
  • Helped the Foundations promote the University’s capital campaign to the alumni audience, resulting in contributions from 82,680 alumni—representing 40 percent of all donors.
  • Celebrated the 100th anniversary of Minnesota magazine
  • Hosted the official bowl tours to the Sun Bowl, the Micron PC Bowl, and two Music City Bowls

Achievements

  • Collaborated on design; held groundbreaking celebration; and completed the $45 million McNamara Alumni Center
  • Received a CASE Gold Award for the Heritage Gallery Wall of Books in the Alumni Center
  • Reached record-high membership of 52,500
  • Developed an alumni association web site
  • Held new career events for students, including “Polish & Protocol” and “Dollars and Sense”
  • Co-sponsored and expanded the Morse-Alumni teaching awards to an all-campus celebration
  • Collaborated with Admissions in recruiting students in 40 communities
  • Mobilized the alumni legislative network in the “249” campaign, which resulted in $206 million in capital bonding
  • Sponsored 21-member Citizens’ Committee to evaluate the regent selection process
  • Developed a Business and Community Program, bringing events into Twin Cities and suburban communities
  • Collaborated with the University of Minnesota Foundation on fund raising for the Alumni Center and a national farewell tour for the University President Nils and Pat Hasselmo
