The 2008 San Diego Chapter Annual Meeting was an event that boasted both spirit and substance, with 75 alumni and friends in attendance Gopher football coach Tim Brewster gave the keynote speech, with Goldy Gopher bringing maroon and gold spirit to California.
And Goldy tells me he’d like to return to southern California on New Year’s Day!
Then-Alumni-Association-national-president Tom LaSalle and I were there, along with Mimi Tung from the University of Minnesota Foundation, because this event had another exciting component: it launched the Calmenson Family San Diego Chapter Scholarship Fund. This endowed scholarship will help enable San Diego County students to attend the U of M. The San Diego Chapter is the first national chapter to have an endowed scholarship, and they hope to inspire other national chapters to do the same.
