Stadium Groundbreaking Ceremony
A ceremonial groundbreaking for TCF Bank Stadium was held, following the symbolic relaying of a football from the Metrodome to the new site.

A ceremonial groundbreaking for TCF Bank Stadium was held, following the symbolic relaying of a football from the Metrodome to the new site.
Ball carriers, volunteers, and onlookers gathered at the stadium site before the relay and the groundbreaking. Jo Rider, an athletics worker who later carried the ball, brought some future Gophers, all of whom were treated to free T-shirts, courtesy of TCF. Robert McNamara took the handoff from his former coach, Murray Warmath, to get the relay started outside the Metrodome. Warmath coached the U's last Big Ten championship team. McNamara is now a key volunteer helping raise funds for the stadium and for Gopher athletics Almost immediately, a crowd began following the ball. See all 20 images.
