Minnesota’s Magic Momentum

Michigan’s President gets mugged by a $100 bill

It was a very typical autumn day (for the North Texas region) on the eighth of October 2005. The weather was mostly sunny and cool. But there was something different in the air. The University of Michigan Club of Dallas had invited the University of Minnesota Alumni Association, North Texas Chapter to watch the MinnesotaMichigan game to vie for the Little Brown Jug. The University of Michigan Club of Dallas “game watches” at the Fox and Hound on Midway north of Beltline Road.

Minnesota played at Michigan in Ann Arbor. From the start, the game had plenty of momentum. Even though there was a little bit of a lull in activity in the 3rd and 4th quarters, there never was a dull moment at the Fox and Hound. Michigan would make a few points, and then Minnesota would be right there. Keeping the score tied. As quoted on Gophersports.com, “The Golden Gophers faced a third and 10 from its own 26-yard line with just over a minute to play. With Bryan Cupito sidelined earlier in the quarter, backup quarterback Tony Mortenson handed off to Russell who darted up the right sideline for 61 yards to the 13-yard line. Minnesota ran two plays up the middle and called timeout with six seconds to play. Giannini then stepped up and kicked the game-winner.” It was a very exciting game, with the Gophers taking the Little Brown Jug home for the first time since 1986!!

The North Texas Chapter wants to thank the people at Michigan for hosting the event. and for being ever so gracious before and after the game!! As a gesture of gratitude, a mug with a $100 bill on it was presented to Michigan chapter President Danielle Levesque. Special thanks to Steven Zaidel with the Michigan contingent
