This Fish Did NOT Get Away

On Wednesday June 7th of 2006 approximately 22 University of Minnesota Alumni from the North Texas Chapter gathered at Big Buck’s Brewery for an All-U-Can-Eat Walleye Fry. This included one toddler (and future U of M Alumnus?) of Dr. and

Mrs. Hughes.

This was a great evening on socializing, networking, and fellowship for North Texas Chapter U of M Alumni. We all got a chance to visit with old friends and new. North Texas Chapter President Harald Mallwitz made some welcoming remarks to all those who came. Local chapter programs were highlighted, some current and past Board members were introduced, and the 50/50 Raffle was another featured activity of the evening. Thanks to Minneapolis, we were sent plenty of “Gopherabilia”. As far as I know, everyone walked away with something from the evening, in addition to lots of walleye. donated a case of Pilsner glasses fashioned to a baseball theme that was raffled off six glasses at a time.

The 50/50 Raffle Grand Prize of $30.00 was won by Larry Rollow, husband to U of M Alum and past President of the North Texas Chapter Dr. Jan Rollow. Larry won the $30.00 and the North Texas Chapter got the other $30.00 to contribute to its scholarship fund. Hence the 50/50 part of the raffle.

When President Mallwitz asked by show of hands if anyone wanted to have another Walleye Fry at Big Buck’s Brewery again in the near future, it was an almost

unanimous vote in favor of holding another Walleye Fry at Big Buck’s.

The North Texas Chapter Board of Directors would like to thank Cleon Converse, General Manager at Big Buck’s, and his staff for a memorable evening and a very successful event for the North Texas Chapter.
