Volunteer of the Year
Jim du Bois, College of Liberal Arts Alumni Society

Jim du Bois (B.A. '87), president and CEO of the Minnesota Broadcasters Association, is the 2004-05 Volunteer of the Year. Former president of the College of Liberal Arts Alumni Society, he created Access Minnesota. The weekly program is hosted by du Bois and produced by students at the U's Radio K. The show features University faculty and staff offering their perspectives on current issues. Almost 50 Minnesota radio stations carry the program.

Du Bois now serves as CLA's representative to the UMAA National Board of Directors, is a member of the Intercollegiate Athletic Advisory Committee, and sits on the Radio K Advisory Council. In addition, in the past year he helped plan two large CLA alumni social events.

Alumni Society of the Year

Institute of Technology Alumni Society
IT alumni not only carried out their annual programs in 2004-05, including a thriving mentor program and their Science and Technology Banquet, they went well beyond. The society assisted in recruiting and interviewing dean candidates and hosted an IT Alumni Day at The Works, which drew some 200 members and their families.

Chapter of the Year
Rochester Area Alumni and Friends of the University of Minnesota

Alumni in Rochester have long set the standard for chapters around the country. Not only do they have an annual set of outstanding events, their members have created a scholarship endowment that has topped the $100,000 mark.

College of Human Ecology Alumni Society

The College of Human Ecology is one of the three University colleges merging into other colleges as part of the U's strategic positioning. The Grand Gold Award recognizes the society's extraordinary tradition of innovative programs and dedicated service, as well as the role it is playing helping create a smooth transition for the University.
