New Board Elected

Minnesota Weather Greats North Texas Chapter

It was a typical late fall day - cold, blistery, and windy. Fairly normal for any Minnesotan, except it was February 18, 2006, and it was North Central Texas. Like fairly normal people, we did not spend too much time outdoors.

Several North Texas Alums took the high road. We caravanned to Capistrano’s after an enjoyable couple of hours touring the C.R. Smith Aviation Museum adjacent to the American Airlines Headquarters in Fort Worth. Capistrano's is surrounded by elegant columns, beautiful lush plants, and an eclectic array of art. We couldn’t help feeling relaxed sitting by our atrium waterfall. We talked about the good old days on campus. We also updating each other on what we are doing today, while enjoying a buffet dinner which included prime rib. It truly felt like we were in our own sanctuary.

Afterwards, we conducted North Texas Chapter business. First on the agenda to let everyone know that the North Texas Chapter is establishing and endowed scholarship with the University of Minnesota Foundation. Please check the following link for details on this exciting new program (http://www.alumni.umn.edu/Scholarships.html drop down to North Texas Chapter Endowed Scholarship Information). As the letter from Rena C. Searl Regional Development Director, Texas notes we have five years to attain the $25,000.00 for the endowment. Your North Texas Chapter, as represented by Harald Mallwitz and Bradley Carroll, signed the Memorandum of Agreement on February 18, 2006. Your North Texas Chapter is also able to afford $400.00 yearly to contribute to the funding of the North Texas Chapter Alumni Endowed Scholarship.

The first person who contributes monies to the fund will receive a copy of “Pigskin Pride – Celebrating a Century of Minnesota Football”.

Second on the agenda was electing officers to the North Texas Chapter Board. I am happy to announce your newly elected members of the Board:

Vice-President:  Paul Eaton, Class of 2002

Treasurer:  Bradley Carroll, Class of 1988

Secretary: Neal Nelson, Class of 1992

Sports Chair:  Open

Webmaster:  Larry Katzung, Class of 1963

Official Photographer: Warren Witt, Class of 1972

President:  Harald Mallwitz, Class of 1984

Please help me welcome and congratulate your new Board serving the North Texas Chapter.

Third, we have been courted by the Rangers and the Frisco Rougher Riders to attend their games. So we have an opening for Sports Chair to head up baseball and other sports outings for the North Texas Chapter. There will be plenty of people to help in that area with such things as getting drinks, sending out emails and flyers,  and the like. Please contact Harald Mallwitz at hmallwitz@comcast.net if you would like to volunteer.

Fourth, our next event is on March 18, 2006. KERA is allot of fun, it is inside work, KERA feeds you for free (usually pretty good food), and you get to talk with some fun people on the phone that you would normally not otherwise talk with. KERA is public television, our local affiliate of Public Broadcast System (PBS), which is a non-profit organization. For details on the event, please check out the following link:  http://www.alumni.umn.edu/12Feb2006.html

With appreciation,

Harald Mallwitz
