Guests arriving for the dinner portion of the event enter Mariucci Arena on a glorious May evening. The lobby of Mariucci faces the site of TCF Bank Stadium. '78) chatted with Leo Lewis (Ph.D. '97), a former Viking player and current U assistant athletic director for student-athlete development. New University Regent Dean Johnson, center, visited with fellow guests before the dinner. Guests at Tony Dungy's table. Tony Dungy took some time to visit with legendary U football coach Murray Warmath during the dinner portion of the evening. UMAA volunteer national president Dennis Schulstad (B.A. '66) opened the program, reviewed the UMAA's 2006-07 accomplishments, and introduced the guest speakers. Tom LaSalle (B.A. '72), right, was introduced by Schulstad as the next alumni association president. Stan Freese (B.A. '67) led about 50 members of the Minnesota Marching Band in a number of tunes, helping guests experience the pride and spirit of game day. Freese lauded the new TCF Bank Stadium as a home for the Minnesota Marching Band, one of the U's great institutions. Watching over his shoulder, in red hair, is Molly Watters, the band's first female drum major. Freese demonstrated his tuba virtuosity between tunes from the band. Tony Dungy received a standing ovation at the beginning of his speech. He praised the power of athletics to bring school spirit and attract potential students to campus. Dungy received the Outstanding Achievement Award, the highest honor for alumni accomplishments, from U President Bob Bruininks, left, Carlson School of Management Dean Alison Davis-Blake, and Athletics Director Joel Maturi. The program closed with <I>Hail! Minnesota</I>, and of course, <I>The Minnesota Rouser</I>. Bruininks and CLA Dean Steven Rosenstone talked with Freese after the program. Fred Friswold and Larry Laukka were key volunteers in getting the McNamara Alumni Center and surrounding improvements built without using any state money. Tony Dungy said Linden attended dental school at the U and became a Minnesota dentist partly because of Tony's experience at the U.
