1/25/2002 1:45 AMThis is a list of activities and events that the Alumni Association chapters and alumni volunteers can undertake to assist the University of Minnesota in recruiting students: Student Sendoffs--This activity involves a chapter hosting a low-key event, such as a picnic, reception, or ice cream social and inviting admitted students from the chapter area to attend. The University's Office of Admissions can supply the names and addresses of admitted students. The Alumni Association's Geographic Outreach program can design, print, and mail the invitations to the admitted students and alumni. Outside of Minnesota, areas where the number of incoming students would be sufficient for this type of event are Illinois, Southern California, Omaha Neb. and Wisconsin. College Fairs--This activity involves alumni representing the U of M at college fairs outside the normal student recruiting areas of the U of M Office of Admissions. Those areas are Texas, Florida, California, and New York. In certain areas, alumni could attend college fairs to assist U of M admissions staff. This activity could be undertaken by individual alumni volunteers, as a chapter activity, or by the chapter organization recruiting alumni to serve as volunteers for this activity. High School Awards Presentations--This activity involves alumni attending high school awards ceremonies to present certificates to scholarship recipients on behalf of the U of M. It could be undertaken by individual alumni volunteers, as a chapter activity, or by the chapter organization recruiting alumni to serve as volunteers for this activity. This activity would occur in the spring, primarily in April and May. Contacts--For more information about these activities, or to volunteer (individually or as a chapter) for any of these activities listed on this menu, contact: Coordinator of Volunteer Programs Director of Geographic Chapter Outreach
