2007 Citywide College Night

Sponsored by the Fort Worth I.S.D.

Tuesday September 17, 2007 saw a large influx of both college representatives and prospective university students (http://www.fortworthisd.org/pdf/2007_college.pdf) at the Amon G. Carter Exhibits Building in Fort Worth. Fort Worth ISD is the third largest school district in Texas with approximately 80,000 students. The 2006 College Night was attended by more than 6,000 students and parents. All 17 Fort Worth Independent School District high schools participated. In 2007, we saw at least 50 people wanting admissions information about the University of Minnesota. There was a fairly good mix of academic interests from

dentistry, to communications, business administration, history, music, English, and sports marketing. In 4 – 5 years, we would like to see all of them become members of the North Texas Chapter.

I would like to give special thanks to two North Texas Chapter members George Alan Russell and Julie Ann Parrott for their yeoman work helping out at the Fort Worth College Fair. What better testimony than for University of Minnesota Alumni to staff the College Fair booth in Fort Worth. Nice job George and Julie!!

Also, I would like to give special thanks to Thomas Gerald Haase. Although Thomas did not staff the booth, he did provide invaluable assistance. Thomas is a University of Minnesota alumnus who is also counselor at North Side High School in Fort Worth. Thomas has been our liaison to the Fort Worth Independent School District. He will be distributing lots of U of M Office of Admissions literature for us to all the high schools in Fort Worth.

It is our participation in this and similar (http://www.alumni.umn.edu/Prospective_Student_Reception_-_March_20_2007.html) events (http://www.alumni.umn.edu/6May20062.html) with the Office of Admissions that makes us more visible to the North Central Texas community. Before too long, the University of Minnesota

will become a household name, being the place for prospective university students to go for higher education.
