Golden Gophers Square Off With Horned Frogs in Baseball Series Opener

Going to a series opener on March 14, 2009 against the 11^th ranked team would seem formidable to almost any team.

of Minnesota Alumni Association, North Texas Chapter was eager to see OUR home team play against TCU. Over twenty Gopher Alumni cheered on OUR team after almost a week of “iffy” weather. With GREAT seats that ran along the first base line, we had an excellent view of the game.

The Gophers had a great start pulling ahead at 3-0. The Horned Frogs saw the challenge and by the bottom of the fifth inning overtook the deficit to lead the Gophers 4-3. The upshot is that the TCU lead lasted only until the eighth inning. Rallying for three more runs gave the Golden Gopher a 6-4 advantage that they successfully held to defeat the Horned Frogs in the first of three scheduled games.

Between the visiting parents and the UMAA – North Texas Chapter Alumni, the Gopher baseball team had a large cheering crowd. We rivaled in numbers those who were Horned Frog fans, and of course excelled them in cheering and waiving our Pom-Poms.

The UMAA-NTC Board of Directors would like to thank the University of Minnesota Alumni Association and the University of Minnesota Baseball Team for providing the many excellent items used in our chapter raffle that we held between the fifth and sixth innings. The team signed
