Despite the cool and wet weather, summer is coming. And that means a new set of discounts for University of Minnesota Alumni Association members especially for the season. From outdoor activities at the U of M Golf Course and the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum to indoor entertainment and education discounts for special summer sessions, there is something for everyone.

The Les Bolstad U of M Golf Course, located just northwest of the U’s St. Paul campus, is a jewel in the heart of the city. Just off 280 and Larpenteur, the course and driving range are opening for the season. Though shorter than the new championship courses, Bolstad features challenging hilly terrain and mature trees that make it play much longer than its advertised length: a course for those who value accurate drives and an excellent short game. Alumni Association members enjoy a discount of $155 off the normal season pass rate, and also save $9 on Mondays, when greens fees are only $20.

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum features acre after acre of trial gardens and native habitats that have thrilled Minnesota garden fanciers for decades. The arboretum offers Alumni Association members a $5 discount off an Arboretum membership, which offers numerous benefits itself.

The U’s well-known Split Rock Arts Program offers week-long summer workshops in creative writing, visual
showboat
art, and design each summer on the University of Minnesota's Twin Cities campus. Split Rock also offers retreats at the University’s Cloquet Forestry Center in northern Minnesota. Both locations are popular destinations because of Split Rock’s promise of intensive study with outstanding artists and writers from throughout the world. Alumni Association members more than pay for the price of their membership with a $50 discount on Split Rock programs if not taken for college credit.

Curiosity Camps are day-long getaways—summer camps for adults—on subjects in arts, science, personal growth and more. Alumni Association members get 20 percent off the tuition to these programs, which begin June 11 and run through August.

Finally, the Minnesota centennial Showboat sets sail this summer with the epic drama, sweet revenge, and swashbuckling fun of The Count of Monte Cristo, from the story by Alexandre Dumas. Celebrating 50 years since its founding as part of Minnesota’s Centennial celebration, the play will include the “best of the Best” olios from the Showboat’s history. And Alumni Association members have two special opportunities to make this landmark outing even better. On Wednesday, June 18 or Tuesday, July 8, members can enjoy the show and a special post-show reception with the Showboat Players for just $30.
