Little Brown Jug Provides 2^nd Annual DramaFest

A rather adventurous band of North Texas Chapter Gopher aficionados congregated at the Fox and Hound English Pub and Grille on Midway Road for the second annual game watch with the University Of Michigan Club Of Dallas. Last year’s game provided plenty suspense. 2006 was the 89^th time that the two teams have played for the Little Brown Jug. A couple of team notes worthy of note include the Gophers having finished the game with 108 net yards rushing, 66 more than any other team had gained on Michigan all season (Vanderbilt had 42 yards in the season opener) and Minnesota’s defense did not allow Michigan to score in the third quarter. It was only the second scoreless quarter the Wolverines have had all season.

With the Gopher football team falling to Michigan (28-14), the Little Brown Jug returns to Michigan for another year. The Gophers did provide a very strong defense late in the game. For those of you who are new to the area, in 2005 the Gopher football (http://www.alumni.umn.edu/22Mar20062.html) team took the Little Brown Jug for the first time since 1986. We would be thrilled to possess the Little Brown Jug again in 2007. The University of Michigan Alumni Club was as gracious this year as they were last. Special thanks to President Danielle Levesque and Sports Czar Steven J. Zaidel for coordinating with Helen Hu and Harald Mallwitz of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association, North Texas Chapter. The Michigan contingent knows how to put on a football watch.

For those of you who did not get what the Gopher was all about at the Michigan Minnesota game on September 30^th, Michael Dillon of BOBBLEMIKE (http://www.bobblemike.com/prod02.htm) donated this sculpture to us to do with as we see fit. We will conduct a silent auction for this beauty at our North Texas Chapter Holiday Party in December.
