3rd Annual Game Watch with University of Michigan Club of Dallas
On the last Saturday in October of 2007, just days before the witching eve of All Hallows’ Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween), Golden Gophers ten strong from the North Texas Chapter formed a contingent at the Fox and Hound in North Dallas. The objective: To return the Little Brown Jug to the University of Minnesota.
As ever so aptly reported on Gophersports.com (http://www.gophersports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=8400&ATCLID=1290662), | | No, not the Maize and Blue "M"! | Minnesota jumped out to a 10-0 lead after a 29-yard field goal by Joel Monroe in the first quarter, and a 41-yard fumble returned for a touchdown by Dom Barber in the second quarter at the 14:48 mark.
The Golden Gophers led 10-6 late in the second quarter, until Brandon Minor scored on a 2-yard touchdown run to give Michigan its first lead of the game, 13-10, with three minutes remaining in the first half.
Unfortunately for the University of Minnesota, the final score was 34-10 in favor of Michigan. The Little Brown Jug stays at Michigan another year. Congratulations to the Wolverines!!
As President of the North Texas Chapter, I would like to congratulate and welcome three new people to the North Texas Chapter Board of Directors. I would be remiss in not mentioning and especially thanking our sponsor for this event – The University of Minnesota Alumni Association (http://www.alumni.umn.edu/UMAA_Home.html). Mark Allen - National Chapter Program Director does an excellent job in helping us make sure that we have what I call “Gopherabilia” for our events. Mark was able to get us two very appropriate and coveted items for this event in support of our raffle.
During | | Yes, we are out-numbered! | half-time, the first item raffled off was Pigskin Pride by Ross Bernstein. Minnesota's wonderful football history comes to life like never before in Ross Bernstein's newest book, "Pigskin Pride." From the Vikings to the Gophers, and from the St. Thomas Tommies to the St. John Johnnies. Congratulations to Matthew Richardson for being the winner of Pigskin Pride.
The second item raffled off during half-time was The Autumn Warrior by Mike Wilkinson, Murray Warmath's 65 Years in American Football. This is about the life and times of University of Minnesota football Coach Murray Warmath, who led the Gophers from 1954-71. Congratulations to Larry Katzung for being the winner of The Autumn Warrior.
