Tucker recently made headlines with his decision to return to the U to finish his bachelor's degree. Even before that, he worked extensively with community youth development in the Twin Cities, having started a foundation, the Trent Tucker Non-Profit Organization, and launching programs that serve at-risk youth and involve children of all ages in positive educational activities. He is now bringing that experience to the University in a position dedicated to enhancing youth development and mentoring activities at the University and with external communities by facilitating new programs and promoting and supporting existing youth development programs in partnership with colleges and units. Tucker's basketball resume includes leading the Gophers to the 1982 Big Ten title, nine years with the New York Knicks and playing on the 1993 Chicago Bulls world championship team with Michael Jordan. He retired as one of the great long-range shooters in NBA history. Tucker's tale of going from NBA fame to student life at the U of M delivers a powerful message: no matter who you are or what you achieve, education still reigns supreme! Senior Send-Off is a free event for all graduating students. In addition to a motivational talk by a well-known speaker, Senior Send-Off includes a free lunch, games, info booths and a chance to win door prizes. More information will be released soon. | |||||||||||||||
