Everyone Loves Winning

It was in some respects a typical day in Dallas. Warm though slightly cooler than of late (there is something wrong with 100 degree weather). It was still a bit humid for those who still have thick Minnesota blood. On the 17th of July in 2009 the North Texas Chapter of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association descended upon the Ballpark in Arlington to watch the Minnesota Twins play against the Texas Rangers.

38 Gophers, family, and friends started out the evening dining in The Diamond Club. We enjoyed an “All You Can Eat”

buffet that included chef’s feature salad of the day, domestic cheese board and seasonal sliced fresh fruit, slow roasted prime rib, poached salmon in caper sauce, scallop potatoes and fried prosciutto ham, wild mushrooms, candied carrots, and mini hamburgers and hotdogs and more all within the convenience of the ballpark with an excellent view of the game.

Another highlight of the evening was the “50/50 raffle”. We sold raffle tickets for $1.00 per ticket, $5.00 for 6 tickets. Between the 1st and 2nd inning we drew one lucky raffle ticket to win half (50%) of what was in the “kitty” at that time - $103.00. One lucky Gopher made off with $51.00 in his pocket. The balance (the other 50%) went to the North Texas Chapter Endowed Scholarship  (round-off goes in favor of the chapter) that we are currently trying to build.

As for the actual game, Twins fans were proud as ever. “Gomez drove in two runs with a triple in the second inning and Jason Kubel belted his 15th homer of the season -- a three-run shot -- in the third, helping the Twins kick off the second half of the season with a victory.” The final score was a 5-3

win
over the Rangers. Sorry Ranger fans!

We have our own Sports Chair to thank for putting together this event. Jayson Walton came on board in 2008 as our Sports Chair. Jayson graduated in 1999 from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Youth Studies/Communication.

We also want to thank Jeremy Christopher (jchristopher@texasrangers.com) who is our Group Sales Account Executive with the Rangers. Jeremy made sure that we were set-up in The Diamond Club with such an excellent view of the baseball diamond and the game. Sports Chair Jayson Watson and President Harald Mallwitz already started negotiations with Jeremy for an even better outing next year in 2010.
