The society board has students and alumni from each of the college disciplines working in tandem to cultivate students as loyal alumni from the moment they consider attending the U.
The society is instrumental to the success of “College to Career,” the hallmark program that connects alumni and students in myriad ways, including design firm tours, career panels, portfolio reviews, design software workshops, and “Conversations with the Dean” events where local design professionals and students discuss industry trends and employer and student needs by discipline.
In two years the College of Design Alumni Society membership has more than doubled from 700 to about 1700 members. The Mentor Connection Program matches 217 students with mentors this past year, co-sponsored a career fair with student services that engaged 240 students, 40 employers and 80 alumni, and sponsored activities that introduced students to 19 different design-related firms in the Twin Cities area during 20070-2008.
